Did you see that Fierce Wind bled during the race, and has been switched from Nick Zito to Rick Violette? Yeah, he and especially Elysium Fields disappointed me, but how can you argue with near heat stroke? I still think Elysium Fields is one hell of a horse, and hopefully Tagg will decide not all is lost with him.
I liked Tomcito's performance, considering he hadn't race since last year, and I'm even more enamoured with Smooth Air (check out his connections' story, it's a good one).
Big Brown--urgh! What a horrible name! All I can think of is a turd :) And I can't stand over-the-top hype: first War Pass, then Pyro, and now Big Brown. Flash in the pan. But, the benefit is the real Derby winner will go at longer odds because everyone is on the BB bandwagon! (Now to figure out who that winner is :)
Yes, I heard today that Fierce Wind bled, and I was not surprised. Elysium Feilds just seemed to fade, but Fierce Wind careened rearwards so quickly I was all but certain he wasn't feeling well. I'm not about over-hyped horses myself...except in the rare cases where it's deserved. Pyro, for instance, I've always felt was a good horse. However, I agree that BB appears to be the proverbial "flash in the pan".
What's funny is how fickle everone is about the old "it" horses. Everyone's dropped War Pass from their top 10. Why? The horse had one bad race and he's been tested a lot more than Big Brown has in his lifetime.
